What types of banners do businesses need?

Banner design is the creation of graphics in fixed dimensions for advertising or display, either on screen or in print. Digital banners include display ads and website headers, while print banners include flex boards, roll-up standees and exhibition backdrops. Each format has specific size, resolution and file requirements that the design must follow.

The word banner covers very different jobs. A display ad may be seen for a second at the side of a news article. A website hero banner sets the first impression of your homepage. A standee at a trade fair must be readable from several metres away while people walk past.

We design for both sides:

  • Digital banners: ad sets in the standard display sizes requested by ad platforms, website hero and slider banners, and email headers
  • Print banners: flex boards, roll-up and X standees, backdrops, stall fascia and event signage

For digital, we work to the sizes and file-weight limits of the ad platform or website. For print, we prepare files at the final dimensions and resolution your printer specifies, since large formats are often printed at a lower dpi than small items. Website banners can be built into your site by our website design team.

Who needs banner design

  • Businesses running ads

Companies running Google Display or social ads who need a full set of sizes for each campaign.

  • Website owners

Businesses updating homepage hero banners and seasonal sliders.

  • Exhibitors

Manufacturers and exporters preparing stall graphics, standees and backdrops for trade fairs.

  • Retail and events

Shops, showrooms and event organisers needing flex boards and in-store signage.

Where banner designs usually go wrong

The most common mistake is designing one banner and stretching it to every size. A layout that works as a wide website header falls apart when squeezed into a tall skyscraper ad or a vertical standee. Text gets tiny, the logo gets cut, and the call to action disappears.

Print banners have their own problems. Designs made at screen resolution look blurry when enlarged to several feet. Important text placed at the bottom of a standee ends up hidden behind the base or table. Colours chosen on a monitor print differently on flex material.

Digital ads also get rejected or load slowly when files exceed platform size limits. Each format needs to be planned for its own dimensions, viewing distance and technical rules.

  • Design each size individually rather than stretching one layout
  • Keep messages short enough for the viewing time available
  • Respect safe zones for standee bases, fold lines and cropping
  • Follow ad platform file size and format limits
  • Prepare print files at the resolution your printer specifies

FAQs

Banner Design FAQs

Still have a question?

Ask us directly — you’ll get a straight answer from the team that does the work.

What sizes do you design banners in?

We design to whatever sizes your platform or printer requires. For digital ads, that is usually the standard set requested by the ad platform; for websites, the dimensions your theme uses, including mobile. For print, we work to the final size of the flex, standee or backdrop, so please share your vendor’s specifications at the start.

What resolution do large print banners need?

Large-format banners are viewed from a distance, so printers often accept a lower resolution than small print items. The exact requirement varies by printer and material, so we ask your printer for their specification and prepare files accordingly. Logos and text are kept as vectors so they stay sharp at any size.

Which file formats will I receive?

Digital banners are delivered as optimised PNG, JPG or WebP files within platform size limits. Print banners are delivered as print-ready PDFs at final dimensions, with vector AI or EPS files where useful. Editable source files are included where agreed in the proposal.

Do you print and install banners?

We handle design and file preparation, while printing, fabrication and installation are done and billed by your print vendor. We can coordinate with them on material, size and finishing. If your vendor needs specific templates, such as for a roll-up stand, we design directly on that template.

How are revisions handled when there are many sizes?

We first get the master banner approved, and revision rounds on it are agreed in the proposal. Once approved, the remaining sizes are adapted from it. Changing the core message after adaptation means reworking every size, so we encourage finalising text and offer details before that stage.
