What is PHP website development?

PHP website development is the practice of building websites with PHP, a server-side language that generates pages, processes forms and works with databases such as MySQL. Modern PHP development uses PHP 8, an MVC structure, prepared statements through PDO, and version control, producing websites that are fast, secure and practical to maintain and extend over time.

The real risk with old or rushed PHP code

PHP has a reputation problem that comes mostly from code written quickly and never revisited. We regularly see sites with database queries built by joining user input into SQL strings, passwords stored without proper hashing, HTML mixed into business logic across hundreds of files, and no version history at all. These sites often still work, until the host upgrades PHP and pages start failing, or until someone exploits a form.

For new projects, we avoid those problems by design: a clear folder structure, a router, controllers, models using PDO, and templates that escape output by default. Is PHP still a good choice for website development?

Yes, PHP is still a strong choice for business websites and web applications. PHP 8 brought significant language and performance improvements, it runs on almost any hosting, and it powers WordPress and many established platforms. Problems blamed on PHP usually come from poorly structured code, which a modern approach with MVC and PDO avoids.

Do you use a PHP framework like Laravel?

We choose the foundation based on the project. For many business websites and admin panels, a lightweight custom MVC structure keeps things lean and easy to host. For larger applications that benefit from a full framework’s ecosystem, a framework may be the better option. We explain the reasoning in our proposal.

Can you upgrade my old PHP website to PHP 8?

Yes, we upgrade older PHP websites to PHP 8. We first audit the code to find deprecated functions, old mysql_* database calls and incompatible libraries, then fix them on a staging copy. After testing, we switch the live server to the new PHP version. Sometimes a partial refactor is worthwhile at the same time.

How do you keep PHP websites secure?

We build security into the code structure: PDO prepared statements for every query, escaped output in templates, CSRF tokens on forms, hashed passwords, validated file uploads and limited login attempts. On the server we use HTTPS, correct file permissions, updated PHP versions and backups. Regular maintenance keeps dependencies current.

What is the difference between PHP development and WordPress development?

WordPress is a content management system written in PHP, so WordPress development works within its themes, plugins and editor. Custom PHP development builds the site or application directly, without WordPress’s structure.
