SEO Audit

SEO Audit

A thorough, one-time review of your website that explains what is holding it back in search, why it matters and exactly what to fix first, written so both managers and developers can act on it.

What is an SEO audit?

An SEO audit is a structured review of a website to find the issues that limit its performance in search. It examines crawling and indexation, site architecture, page content, metadata, structured data, Core Web Vitals, internal links and local signals, then turns the findings into a prioritised list of fixes with clear reasons and ownership.

An SEO audit gives you an honest picture of where your website stands before you spend on ongoing work, a redesign or new content. Automated tools produce long lists of warnings; our audit separates the issues that genuinely matter from the noise and explains each one in plain language.

The audit checks:

  • Index coverage, crawl errors, canonicals, redirects and sitemaps
  • Site architecture, click depth and internal linking
  • Titles, headings, thin or duplicate content and keyword overlap
  • Structured data validity and coverage
  • Core Web Vitals field data and page weight
  • Mobile usability and JavaScript rendering
  • Local signals and Google Business Profile, where relevant
  • Analytics and conversion tracking setup

You receive a written report, an issue spreadsheet with affected URLs, and a prioritised action plan. We can then implement the fixes through technical SEO work, or your own team can use the plan independently.

The cost of an audit depends mainly on the size of the site, the number of page templates and whether local or e-commerce signals are in scope. After a quick look at your website, we share a written scope and pricing before the audit begins.

When an SEO audit makes sense

  • Sites with falling visibility

Businesses seeing impressions or enquiries drop in Search Console without an obvious cause.

  • Before a redesign or migration

Teams planning a new website who want to know what to preserve and what to fix in the rebuild.

  • Before hiring an SEO provider

Owners who want an independent baseline before committing to an ongoing programme.

  • In-house teams needing a roadmap

Marketing and development teams who can do the work but need a clear, prioritised list.

Why tool-generated reports are not enough

Free and paid SEO tools can scan a site in minutes and produce hundreds of warnings. The trouble is that they treat a missing alt attribute on a decorative icon with the same urgency as an entire section of the site blocked from indexing. Teams either try to fix everything and run out of time, or ignore the report altogether.

Tool scores also miss context. They cannot tell whether a noindexed page should be noindexed, whether two similar pages target different intents, or whether a traffic drop came from a site change or a broader search update.

An audit needs judgement: connecting crawl data with Search Console, analytics and the business’s goals, then deciding what actually deserves attention first and what can safely wait.

  • Manual review alongside crawl and Search Console data
  • Findings explained with cause, impact and fix
  • Priorities ordered by impact versus effort
  • Developer-ready specifications for technical fixes
  • Clear separation of critical issues and minor improvements

Scope

What you receive from the audit

  • Written audit report

Summary of findings in plain language, with screenshots and examples for every major issue.

  • Issue spreadsheet

Every finding with affected URLs, severity, recommended fix and suggested owner.

  • Prioritised action plan

A sequenced plan separating quick wins, structural fixes and longer-term content work.

  • Performance review

Core Web Vitals field and lab data for key templates, with the main causes of slowness identified.

  • Structured data check

Existing schema validated, errors listed and missing types recommended for key page templates.

  • Walkthrough session

A call to go through the findings with your team and answer questions about implementation.

Process

Our SEO Audit process

  1. Scope and access

We agree the audit scope and get read access to Search Console, GA4 and, if relevant, your CMS or hosting.

  2. Crawl and data pull

We crawl the full site and export index, performance and query data to compare what exists with what is indexed.

  3. Manual analysis

Key templates, top pages and problem areas are reviewed by hand to confirm causes and rule out false alarms.

  4. Report and prioritisation

Findings are written up, scored for impact and effort and organised into a sequenced action plan.

  5. Handover and walkthrough

We present the audit to your team, answer questions and, if you wish, scope the implementation work.

FAQs

SEO Audit FAQs

Still have a question?

Ask us directly — you’ll get a straight answer from the team that does the work.

What is included in an SEO audit?

Our audit covers technical health, indexation, site architecture, on-page content, structured data, Core Web Vitals, mobile usability, internal linking, analytics setup and local signals where relevant. You receive a written report, an issue spreadsheet listing affected URLs and a prioritised action plan, followed by a walkthrough call with your team.

Will the audit fix the problems it finds?

The audit is a diagnostic deliverable, so it identifies and explains issues rather than fixing them. You can hand the action plan to your own developers, or we can quote separately for implementing the fixes. Many clients use the audit to decide what work to commission next.

Do you need access to our website or accounts?

Read access to Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 is strongly recommended, because they show how Google actually sees your site. CMS or hosting access is only needed if the scope includes checking server settings or templates. We never need passwords for accounts that can be shared through user permissions.

How often should a website be audited?

A full audit is worth doing before a redesign or migration, after a significant drop in visibility, or when you are about to start a new SEO programme. Beyond that, most sites benefit from a lighter technical check after major releases and a fuller review every year or so.

Can an audit tell us why our traffic dropped?

Often it can narrow down the cause. We compare the timing of the drop with site changes, indexation shifts and known Google updates, and check which pages and queries were affected. Sometimes the answer is a clear technical error; other times it reflects changing competition or search behaviour, which we explain honestly.
