For most Ahmedabad businesses that serve local customers, local SEO starts with a complete, accurate and actively managed Google Business Profile, supported by a website that confirms the same details. Google decides who appears in the map results, but a well-kept profile gives it the clearest possible picture of what you do, where you are and how customers rate you.
This guide walks through the profile section by section, with notes specific to how businesses and addresses work in Ahmedabad. It is the same order we use when we take over a profile for a client.
How does Google decide which local businesses to show?
Google states that local results are based mainly on three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Everything you do on your profile and website feeds one of these three.
- Relevance is how well your profile matches what the person searched for. Accurate categories, services and descriptions improve it.
- Distance is how far your business is from the searcher or the location in their query. You cannot change where your office or showroom is, and you should not try to fake it.
- Prominence is how well known your business is, both online and offline. Reviews, mentions on other websites, links and your overall web presence contribute.
That is why a clinic in Satellite will rarely appear for someone searching from Naroda, however well optimized it is. Distance is real, and the honest response is to be the most relevant and prominent option for people nearby, not to invent addresses across the city.
How should you set up the basics correctly?
Get the foundations right before worrying about posts and photos, because errors here undermine everything else.
Business name
Use your real-world business name exactly as it appears on your signage, letterhead and GST registration. Adding keywords or locations, such as “Best Interior Designer Ahmedabad”, breaks Google’s guidelines and can lead to suspension. Competitors and Google’s own systems do report it.
Address or service area
If customers visit you, show the address. If you visit customers, such as an AC repair service or a home tutor, set a service area and hide the street address. Ahmedabad addresses often include landmarks, such as “Opp. a particular mall” or “Nr. a cross road”. That is fine, but choose one standard format and use it everywhere, including the correct pin code and the area name customers actually use, whether that is Prahlad Nagar, Bodakdev or Vatva GIDC.
Phone, website and hours
Use a local or mobile number that is answered during business hours, link to the most relevant page of your website and keep hours accurate, including special hours for Diwali, Uttarayan and other holidays. A customer who arrives at a closed shutter rarely gives you a second chance.
Why does NAP consistency still matter?
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. When these details match across your website, profile and other listings, Google can be more confident they all describe the same business.
Inconsistency creeps in easily. A business moves from Navrangpura to Thaltej and updates its website but not Justdial, an old landline stays on a directory, or one listing says “Pvt Ltd” and another does not. Make a simple spreadsheet of every place your business is listed, including your website footer and contact page, social profiles, major Indian directories and industry associations, and correct each one to the same standard format. Prioritize quality listings over volume; hundreds of low-quality directory submissions add nothing.
Which categories and services should you choose?
Choose the single primary category that most precisely describes your core business, then add a small number of secondary categories only for things you genuinely offer.
The primary category carries the most weight for relevance. A business selling and servicing industrial pumps should choose the most specific matching category rather than a generic one like “Manufacturer”. Look at the categories of businesses already appearing for your main searches, but do not copy categories that do not describe you.
The Services and Products sections let you list specific offerings with short descriptions. Write them the way customers ask for them. A dental clinic might list root canal treatment, clear aligners and dental implants separately rather than a single “dental services” entry. Keep descriptions factual and avoid repeating the same keyword phrase over and over.
What makes photos and posts useful rather than decorative?
Photos and posts work best when they answer questions a customer has before visiting or calling: what the place looks like, who they will meet and what the work looks like.
Photos
- Exterior photos that help people find you, including the building entrance and nearby landmark.
- Interior and workspace photos taken in good light.
- Team photos, so customers recognize faces.
- Real examples of finished work or products, not stock images.
Add new photos periodically as things change. A profile whose newest photo is years old suggests the business may not be active.
Posts
Use posts for offers, events, new services, seasonal reminders and short updates. A post about pre-monsoon roof waterproofing checks, published before the rains, is far more useful than a generic “We are the best” graphic. Include a clear call to action and link to the relevant page on your site.
How should you get and handle reviews?
Ask every genuine customer for a review, make it easy, and respond to what they say. That is the whole strategy; there are no safe shortcuts.
- Share your direct review link by WhatsApp or email after a job is completed or a purchase is delivered.
- Ask all customers, not only the ones you expect to be happy. Filtering who you ask, known as review gating, goes against Google’s policies.
- Never buy reviews, swap reviews with other businesses, write them for customers or offer discounts in exchange for them. Google removes fake reviews and can restrict the profile.
- Reply to reviews politely, in the language the customer used where you can. A reply in Gujarati to a Gujarati review reads naturally.
- Answer negative reviews calmly and factually, offer to resolve the issue offline, and never reveal private customer details.
Future customers read your replies as closely as the reviews themselves. A professional response to a complaint often builds more trust than a row of five-star ratings.
How should you use Q&A and local landing pages?
Where the questions and answers feature is available on your profile, answer real customer questions accurately and keep an eye on answers posted by the public, which can be wrong. Your website should then expand on those answers in more depth.
Local landing pages are where many businesses go wrong. A page per location is right when you have a genuine branch, showroom or service team there, with unique details such as the address, staff, directions, local projects and reviews. Creating thirty nearly identical pages that only swap the area name, such as “plumber in Bopal”, “plumber in Maninagar” and so on, is a doorway page pattern that search engines treat as spam. One strong city page, plus real branch pages where they exist, is usually the better structure. Our local SEO service plans these pages around actual coverage rather than keyword lists.
How do you measure whether it is working?
Use the Performance section of your profile to track searches, calls, direction requests and website clicks over time. Add UTM parameters to your profile website link so visits are identified separately in Google Analytics, and log phone enquiries that mention Google.
Rankings in the map pack vary by where the searcher stands, so a single screenshot from your own office is misleading. Judge progress by enquiries and actions, checked month on month.
Key takeaways
- Google’s stated local ranking factors are relevance, distance and prominence; focus on the first and third.
- Use your real business name, the most precise primary category and one consistent address format.
- Keep NAP identical across your website and every listing that matters.
- Use real photos and useful posts, not stock images or slogans.
- Ask every customer for reviews; never buy, fake, incentivize or filter them.
- Build location pages only where you have a genuine presence.
